CALL NOWBuilding solid technique is essential for developing musical accuracy, strength and even expression. Our guitar students, especially beginning guitar students, will learn how to properly hold, tune, fret, strum and pick a guitar. With a strong emphasis on building proper technique, our students will have the foundation to explore different music – and even create their own.
Music comes in many different styles and at the Kawai Music School, we believe that learning and appreciating each is an essential component in a student’s ongoing musical journey. All of our guitar students will get to learn, explore and perform classical, rock, pop, jazz and blues. Our students will also learn the foundations of musical improvisation.
Because our program emphasizes the importance of building solid technique, understanding how music works, exploring different musical styles and performing in different settings, our students develop the skill sets to perform, collaborate and create music that will enrich their life and the lives of others no matter the group, stage or venue.
All of our guitar instructors at the Kawai Music School are professionally trained and hold music degrees from world-class institutions. They also have decades of experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels. The caliber of our guitar instructors is what we’re truly proud of – they’re engaging, professional, fun and passionate. They are also caring and are diligent in meeting the needs of each student.
We believe that performing is an essential component of a student’s improvement and musical journey. All our guitar students will have many performing opportunities that include onsite public recitals, master classes with well-known teachers and artists, as well as ensemble performances with other students. Performances not only enhance and showcase a student’s musical journey, it also boosts a student’s confidence

Like most instruments, the guitar can be difficult to learn in the beginning but with commitment, patience and practice, it will get easier. The difficulty in the beginning is not because you’re not good enough – it’s because it’s learning a new skill. But with time and practice, you will see some amazing results. We’re here to help you on that journey – and we’ll have fun doing it.
It is never too late to learn how to play guitar. Everyone at every age is fully capable of learning the guitar. Whether you’re 10, 20, or even 75 years old, you have the ability to learn and advance at technique, music theory, songs, strumming, etc. What is most important for every student no matter the age is to develop good practice habits – practicing every day, with a plan, and with determination and commitment.
We encourage our students to practice every day for at least 15 minutes. You can practice longer – and we suggest up to but no more than 60 minutes – as long as you break up the time into manageable chunks, which is about 20 minutes. Long practice sessions are not encouraged because the mind starts to lose focus at around 15 to 20 minutes. It is scientifically proven that short and regular practicing are far more effective than one long practice session.
If you’re committed to good practice habits, you’ll start to feel comfortable around 6 months. At this point, you know your way around the guitar, including mastering basic chords and playing songs that sound more like the original versions. You’ll also be able to switch between chords faster and maybe even pluck the strings with your fingers instead of a pick. So, stick with it – and we’ll be right there with you.
