Biographies
Jonathan Tsay, Pianist
Jonathan Tsay is a Soloist, collaborative Pianist, chamber musician, producer, and arts administrator whose artistic career is as diverse as his personal interests. Solo recitals performed in multiple city tours of late include, the National Recital Hall in Taipei, Kaohsiung Music Hall, and the Pingtung Arts Center. Solo performance engagements were also given at The Cliburn, Music at Southminster in Ottawa, Blanco Performing Arts, and Fine Arts Chamber Players.
Recordings of Jonathan are featured in, Brahms – A Listener’s Guide: Unlocking the Masters Series, as well as on Chloé Trevor’s album, Immortal and Danse Macabre. Portfolio, a solo CD, was released in 2009. Harmonic Allusions, a collaborative album, was released in September of 2017. Jonathan also hosts the popular classical music podcast, “Between the Barlines“ an exploration of the classical music landscape of the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area and the interesting variety of personalities there.
Dr. Tsay, a sought after collaborator, performs frequently alongside world premier musicians, such as Chee-Yun, David Cooper (Principal Horn, Berlin Philharmonic), Jing Wang (Concertmaster, Hong Kong Philharmonic), dramatic soprano Alessandra Marc, Chloé Trevor (“musical ambassador to Generation Z”), the Cézanne Quartet, and Nathan Olson (Concertmaster, Dallas Symphony Orchestra). Performing regularly as Principal Keyboard of the Las Colinas Symphony, Jonathan is also the Artistic Director of Ensemble75, a Dallas Texas based chamber music series.
With growing popularity, Dr. Tsay’s role as a masterclass teacher has taken him to Taiwan National University of the Arts, Kaohsiung Normal University, Soochow University, Stephen F. Austin State University, and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Dr. Tsay has served on the screening jury for the Dallas International Piano Competition, an adjudicator for the Texas Music Teacher’s Association Solo Competition, Austin Youth Music Ambassadors and numerous other competitions.
At the age of five, Dr. Tsay began his piano studies with Carolyn Savko. The expert hand of Dr. Carol Leone helped guide Jonathan to a Bachelors of Music with Honors at the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University. At the esteemed l’Université de Montréal Jonathan pursued a Masters of Music degree as a student of Marc Durand, and ultimately earned his doctorate through an accelerated program. Composition studies with Simon Sargon and David Karp, along with conducting with Jack Delaney and Paul Phillips are also a part of Jonathan’s musical background.
Don Mannino, Master Piano Technician (MPA)
Don Mannino has worked as a piano rebuilder and concert piano technician for international artists, after serving a traditional two-year apprenticeship. Having studied extensively with Kawai Master Piano Artisans (MPAs) in both Japan and the United States, Don has prepared instruments for the William Kapell International Piano Competition and numerous concert artists across North America. After earning his MPA certification in Japan, Don has worked alongside the Japanese MPAs in the creation of the world-renowned Shigeru Kawai grand pianos.
